To establish is to:
bring into existence | put into a favourable position | put beyond doubt
Do you consider this when you are establishing, new habits, practices, routines, goals, or relationships in your life?
It is all too easy to start down a track without knowing why or what we are doing it for. The fast pace of modern life does not have breaks, stops, rests or reflection built in… it is up to us to establish the space and notice when we need these things in our lives, and yes, we all need all of them.
Think about how easy it is to go from one thing to the next. The next workout, work meeting, social engagement, take away meal, work promotion, relationship, insert life goal here… ‘Taking it all in your stride’, ‘not a moment to pause’, ’the pursuit of perfection’, ‘life doesn’t wait for you’, ’sleep when you’re dead’, ‘it’s a dog eat dog world’.
We are masterful at initiating and establishing things in our lives these days. But how often is this done with the awareness of why and how it will create a foundation to build from, giving us a place to come from, create a favourable position, and support us?
To create change in life, new habits, patterns and routines are needed. An interruption to the current patterns are required, without this nothing new can happen. Some change can be made overnight, and some requires patience and resilience… and all of it requires dedication to the establishment of your new direction.
Ask yourself this, next time you establish something new for yourself:
- Why is this important to me?
- How does this align with my goals?
- What am I building from doing this?
- Does this create a favourable position for me?
- How will this support me?
